5. Safe Storage & Disposal of Medicines

Storing Your Medicines Safely

  • Store most medications in a cool, dry place away from heat, direct light, and humidity.
  • Always check your prescription label for specific storage requirements (e.g., refrigeration between 2°C–8°C).
  • Keep track of expiry dates by checking original packaging or dispensing labels. Do not transfer multiple medications into a single container.
  • Keep all medicines strictly out of reach and out of sight of children in a high, locked cabinet. Avoid storing medicines on bedside tables, in handbags, or on low refrigerator shelves.

Disposal of Unwanted or Expired Medicines

  • Do not throw unused or expired medicines in your household waste or flush them down the toilet, as this causes environmental harm.
  • You can return unwanted or expired medicines free of charge to any local community pharmacy for safe disposal.
  • Alternatively, please contact PharmacyHaus to arrange the return and safe disposal of unwanted medicines dispensed by us.
  • Sharps Notice: Please note that we cannot accept hazardous sharp waste (such as needles, syringes, or lancets) through the post. These must be disposed of safely via your local council or GP surgery sharps collection service.
